SDG Policy Assesment

New assessment tool promoting the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals in Danish politics
The new prototype helps government officials, politicians, and municipalities integrating the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals into new policy and bill initiatives in order to improve the Danish contribution to the 2030 goals.
What: A new prototype to ease the process of assessing policy initiatives and bills from a viewpoint of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and climate- and sustainability field. The idea behind the prototype was developed at AMB17ION in 2017 under the working title: “mandatory sustainability assessment of politics”.

Who: A working group consisting of different actors and experts working with public management and development, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the municipalities and project leaders from Chora Connection are working to develop the prototype.

Goals: The prototype aims to develop a series of tools for politicians and officials to tap into the sustainability agenda. It also addresses the challenge of creating public awareness of the impact of specific policy initiatives in the light of the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Specific goals:

  • To develop an operational set of tools for complex sustainability assessment of specific politic initiatives, with an inherent focus on limit values and relevance
  • To develop management tools for implementation of the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals in a municipal context
  • To create high quality best cases practices to promote the use of the goals as a framework for political leadership and development.
  • To create new models for strategic collaborations around the goals

Role: Chora Connection has been facilitating the working group during 2017.

Status: No further activity in the working group is currently planned.
