“The self-sustaining asylum center” is the working title of a new prototype for the sustainable asylum center, developed in a partnership between Chora Connection and Danish Red Cross, and in collaboration with Human Habitat, amongst others. The focus is on establishing organic farms at the individual asylum centers, to activate the users of the center, create community and provide the center with locally sourced vegetables.
So far, the work has been focused on developing prototypes in close collaboration with asylum centers Jelling and Auderød.
Chora Connection is facilitator, catalyst and instigator in developing prototypes related to this project.
Karen Blincoe, working chairman of Chora Connection, says: “We have taken the initiative for a project that is focused on using the potential of the earth to create meaningful lives. Observing the earth, and watching plants grow, can create universal connections between people. More asylum centers are moving towards this, and the goal is to develop a national and international model that can contribute to sustainable development in both Denmark and the world
